MARK JONES & 20 PACES

Hometown:
Spring, TX
Genres: Country
Label: Double X Productions

In the ever changing environment of Texas music, it's more important than ever to stand out from the crowd. Having a 6'7" lead singer goes a long way in helping Mark Jones and Twenty Paces stand out from the crowd, or at least above it. Add in a healthy dose of soaring vocal harmonies and well crafted songs, and it's not hard to hear the difference as well.

Already in XXP's short life as a band they've drawn comparisons to regional acts such as Brandon Rhyder and Wade Bowen. They're more Tom Petty than they are George Strait, but more Michael Martin Murphy than Lynyrd Skynyrd. More Train than Bob Wills, but more Clint Black than Led Zeppelin. However if asked to list their influences, all of those names are going to come up in the conversation at some point.

Comprised of Mark Jones (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Josh Norman (vocals, bass), Wayne McCrary (guitar), and Stephen Elizondo (percussion), this four piece, Houston based outfit has just completed a live EP (recorded at Dosey Doe's in The Woodlands, Tx) and is set to assume a full touring schedule this summer. Also in the works for the summer of 2011 is a full studio CD, as well as a live DVD concert shoot.

Take the time to listen to the music or come to a show and judge for yourself. The band's mantra is simple, "We play two kinds of songs. The one's we write, and the one's we like. We hope one of them becomes your favorite."

BRANDON RHYDER

Brandon Rhyder Bio

Brandon Rhyder had a vision for his "Live at Billy Bob's Texas" album and new songs were definitely a top priority. "I just didn't want to play all previously released songs. I wanted the fans to have something different and something with some new perspective mixed in with the songs that helped get us to where we are now," Brandon said. In this 2 disc set you will hear more outside-written songs. Songs like "You Can't Outdrink the Truth" by Walt Wilkins and Liz Rose and "Nowhere USA" by Keith Gattis. "Shine" by good friend and guitarist in the band, Matt Powell. "In The Country" by Jon Randall and the final track called "Lucky Man" by Paul Thorn. Brandon adds, "There are so many great writers and performers out there that I admire and I have wanted to record these tracks for some time. I also relate to these songs, so I can sing them with ease and conviction, no pun intended. It's nice to get to sing such great tunes."

Of course, Brandon made sure to give the fans what they wanted too. Songs like "Freeze Frame Time," "Backroads," and "Let the Good Times Roll" are all staples for any given Brandon Rhyder show. "As an artist there are songs that define your career and those songs need to be played at shows and most definitely placed on a "Live at Billy Bob's Texas" record. We are so blessed to live this crazy dream and our fans are the reason we get to do so. I say it each night; without them, I'm a nine to fiver," Brandon tells me with a smile. It's easy to see and hear when you listen to this collection of tunes that Brandon really gave all he had on this recording...just like he does each and every night his feet touch the stage!

Doug Reid & The Herd

Hometown: Conroe, TX
Genres: Country / Southern Rock / Texas Country
Members: Paul Stokes, Chris Smith

Douglas Reid McAnally was born in Houston, TX as a 7th generation Texan in the early 70's. Doug grew up in Willis, TX on his grandparent’s cattle ranch up until the 8th grade, and then finished up high school in The Woodlands. Nothing ever seemed to stick until he finally picked up the guitar around the age of 21. Around 1996, The Voodoo Cowboy Band was Doug’s first real working band, in which he played rhythm guitar, but only sang a few songs. Band members in this group included Randy Grimes, Hank Shank, and Cathy Martinez. Once Voodoo Cowboy dissolved, Doug was recruited by a band out of Nacogdoches by the name of Nowhere Texas. In this band, Doug got the opportunity to open for such greats as Gary P. Nunn and Cross Canadian Ragweed, which was a great experience. After Nowhere Texas, Doug went Solo Acoustic until he and fellow Songwriters, Dan Scott and Paul Adair started a group together called The Sleepy Hollow Band. Finally in 2007, after a short stint in rehab for drug abuse, Doug emerged ready to front his own group. He enlisted the help of Paul Stokes for Bass, Chris Smith on the Drums and Marty Holmes on Steel Guitar. The Herd you hear today is still Chris and Paul on the rhythm section, with a revolving door at the lead position. Doug feels very lucky and blessed to have the likes of some of the best lead pickers in the county playing with him. These include the likes of Joey Wells, Jeremy Bankhead, Russell Knox, and sometimes fiddle player Cody Newman. Douglas Reid and The Herd play a wide variety of music stretching across all genres from SUBLIME and Marshall Tucker, to Rehab and Jamey Johnson. Doug also peppers the set list with some homegrown originals and his sets are built to please the crowd. If you have not caught this high energy, rocking country, southern rock show, you are definitely missing out.
