Doug Reid & The Herd

Hometown: Conroe, TX
Genres: Country / Southern Rock / Texas Country
Members: Paul Stokes, Chris Smith

Douglas Reid McAnally was born in Houston, TX as a 7th generation Texan in the early 70's. Doug grew up in Willis, TX on his grandparent’s cattle ranch up until the 8th grade, and then finished up high school in The Woodlands. Nothing ever seemed to stick until he finally picked up the guitar around the age of 21. Around 1996, The Voodoo Cowboy Band was Doug’s first real working band, in which he played rhythm guitar, but only sang a few songs. Band members in this group included Randy Grimes, Hank Shank, and Cathy Martinez. Once Voodoo Cowboy dissolved, Doug was recruited by a band out of Nacogdoches by the name of Nowhere Texas. In this band, Doug got the opportunity to open for such greats as Gary P. Nunn and Cross Canadian Ragweed, which was a great experience. After Nowhere Texas, Doug went Solo Acoustic until he and fellow Songwriters, Dan Scott and Paul Adair started a group together called The Sleepy Hollow Band. Finally in 2007, after a short stint in rehab for drug abuse, Doug emerged ready to front his own group. He enlisted the help of Paul Stokes for Bass, Chris Smith on the Drums and Marty Holmes on Steel Guitar. The Herd you hear today is still Chris and Paul on the rhythm section, with a revolving door at the lead position. Doug feels very lucky and blessed to have the likes of some of the best lead pickers in the county playing with him. These include the likes of Joey Wells, Jeremy Bankhead, Russell Knox, and sometimes fiddle player Cody Newman. Douglas Reid and The Herd play a wide variety of music stretching across all genres from SUBLIME and Marshall Tucker, to Rehab and Jamey Johnson. Doug also peppers the set list with some homegrown originals and his sets are built to please the crowd. If you have not caught this high energy, rocking country, southern rock show, you are definitely missing out.
